The best laid caching plans of mice and men and all that – blah blah blah. Steve of Jajast and Arnold of 4 Queens and a King and I made caching plans for Saturday. Mama Queen even took custody of one of the ninja twins for a day at Beaver Lake with the other little queens whilst the other ninja twin stayed home and recovered from his cold and did his guitar and keyboard thing, so I had a caching day all to myself.
I downloaded a PQ, and I went in to gsak (which I have just started really using) and created a filter for the caches we were searching for and put them in mogumbo the gps. All good, right – WRONG.
Dropped off a ninja, picked up a king and grabbed an St and off we went to the Sandown Town Forest. Stopped to grab Bounce for Arnold and Steve and then we grabbed another one just down the road before heading on our way. Here is where the difficulties started. I didn’t have that extra cache in mogumbo – no biggie because King Arnold has EVERYTHING in his new Oregon – and I do mean EVERYTHING. So there we were, right ON the turn we needed to take when my erstwhile navigator decides to tell me that it’s the turn that I wanted. Well I MADE the turn, so what if it was on two wheels lol – Spike the minivan rocks!
Grabbed the cache and went on our way to STF only to find that NONE of the caches were in mogumbo. I obviously screwed up
No worries though, because as I said, King Arnold has EVERYTHING in his Oregon lol. All went very well, and we cached merrily along, though I was sad to find out my new boots were NOT as waterproof as I thought they were – Tracie is very sad about this – but no matter. We cached along happily, until we came to grundlage. We searched and searched and searched and searched – and I KNOW we were right there but we just couldn’t find it. the king and St decided that i should be the one to email plumb69 and beg for a clue, lol.
Spent a little time talking to a guy across from the invisible grundlage for a bit – he was curious about the car that parked by his mailbox all the time and they guys going into the woods staring at something in their hands. So we promptly explained the whole geocaching concept and headed on our merry way back to Spike the mini van.
On our way home, we grabbed a couple of more caches – none of which were in mogumbo, but at the first one, that didn’t stop me. Arnold told me where to park, I got out of the car and while he and Steve were fumbling for their GPS’s I walked to the cache, grabbed it and handed it to them. Most definately my rock star moment of the day lol – and it wasn’t even a lame guardrail cache. Totally made up for my squealing like a girl when i touched the slug. From there we grabbed one more at a nearby park and ride and headed home.
Then I sat down with geocaching.com and gsak and figured out what I did wrong. My queries didn’t extend far enough to get all of the Sandown Town Forest. That’s all fixed now. Go me! And I worked on creating a very cool filter. I’m not a mystery cache fan, I want them in GSAK, but not taking up room in mogumbo – he has no slot for a memory card
so I created a mystery free cache.
So while I was caching blind yesterday, it didn’t matter – good fun with good friends is what it’s all about for me. And as always, because I am too lazy to list all the caches, here is the info copied and pasted from geocaching.com. Oh and before I forget, I nominated Lobster Roll for granite state geocachers cache of the month. Go vote for it…it’s the cutest hide ever.
