I was contacted by Nashuan last night regarding a CITO event on Saturday December 6.
COME JOIN US AS WE CLEAN ONE SMALL
SECTION OF METHUEN, MASSACHUSETTS
Saturday, December 6th from 8:30 A.M. – 11:00 A.M.
We need your help for about 2 1/2 hours to clean a small lot at the end of Cambridge Street in Methuen that has many discarded tires and other debris; collected over many years. This dump site is unsafe for area children and an eyesore to the neighborhood itself. If we all pitch in, we can give the community a Christmas present of our time and energy. Check out these photos and ask if this is what you want your neighborhood to look like:
There is enough trash here to keep everyone busy for a few hours, but as you can see, the largest challenge will be to recover the tires from the marsh. With the onset of the cold and ice, and the inherent danger of walking through the muck, we have decided to pull as many of the tires as possible from the swamp prior to the event, but we need your help loading them onto a truck (or trucks). In addition to the tires, there is the standard assortment of debris that you would expect to accumulate at an illegal dump site, and it will only get worse if we don’t step up to the plate. Please stop by, even if you can only give an hour of your time. We may not be able to clean everything here because it’s getting late in the season, but let’s get out what we can and show the community that geocachers are good for the environment ! Bring gloves, rakes, shovels, other implements of destruction and be sure to wear boots that are heavy enough to walk over the debris shown (yeah, your geocaching shoes will be perfect). Please post your intentions to help, so we know how many people to expect.

November 27th: HAPPY THANKSGIVING !
Great news everyone! We have been contacted by Mayor Manzi’s office and have been told that the city will send a truck out to pick up the tires as long as we relocate them to the street. What will probably work best and be the most fun is to form a human chain and roll the tires from one person to the next until they get moved to where the city can pick them up. After that we can get started on the rest of the debris, but we will try to make short work of this as well. Once we are finished with the clean-up, we will take anyone who wants to come to the Milk Street Park (nearby) and do the six caches that are there.
PLEASE COME IF YOU CAN
